About Us
The National Security Technology Incubator (NSTI) is the Arrowhead Technology Incubator's flagship TIPs program. The NSTI is operated by the Arrowhead Center, at New Mexico State University (NMSU) to promote economic development in New Mexico. The NSTI is funded by a grant from the National Nuclear Security Administration branch of the Department of Energy. The mission of the NSTI is to identify, incubate, and accelerate technologies with national security applications at various stages of development by providing hands-on mentoring and business assistance to small and emerging or growing businesses. The NSTI, located in Las Cruces, NM, promotes the development of new businesses and extablished small businesses in New Mexico, with a focus in technologies applied to national security requirements. The Incubator supports these technology-based businesses with NMSU resources, decision support technology, business counseling services, and financial/capital acquisition assistance. By providing unique business assistance to clients, NSTI nurtures businesses past the critical early stages of development. According to the National Business Incubation Association (NBIA), entrepreneurs who get their start at an incubator have a higher success rate, on average, than those who attempt the feat alone. Over 50% of all small businesses fail in the first year and 80% within five years; whereas, incubated businesses have an 87% survival rate during the first year, and 84% go on to do business in their local regions.
